Translation History (told in a nifty 3rd person perspective) The Fire Emblem Gaiden translation was orginally started as a "pet" project by Stovetop, but was later dropped due to lack of time and resources. A couple months later, (V)age (or Mage), launched his FEG Translation site, but soon after announcing it, he went off on vacation. After discovering this, Stovetop dug up all this notes and decided to "donate" what he had done to help out this new translation effort, but while waiting for Mage to return, he resumed his work on it, to help Mage out further. But by the time Mage returned, Stovetop had already completed about 60% of the dialouge and other various parts of the game, so, to make a long story short, Stovetop and Mage combined efforts and worked together to complete the remaining work that needed to be done. What a remarkable story! Haha, see, there's no need to compete when you can just work together! RukeRiese -Translations -Revisions Nuku-Nuku -Translations --------------------------------- 3. What We Did So Far -Expanded most place names, some are still pretty crappy though. -Expanded items and inserted tiles until the emulators can show the tiles that are already there, correctly. -Character names cannot be expanded past 4 characters, or they won't show up in some menu's.. so until that is resolved, we're stuck with 4 letter names. -Almost all the (known) dialogue has been inserted. -Menus are almost done, some need pointer hacks and/or translation still. -Spiffy title screen replacement. --------------------------------- 4. What Needs To Be Done -A lot of spot translating and cleaning up (yucky pointer mods). -Some of the battle text is yet to be inserted. -Blocks of text that seem to label the books or chapters of the game haven't been inserted. -pre-rebellion description --------------------------------- 5. Known Bugs Nothing severe, but when a text string exceeds the menu, it usuallys blanks out the whole line. We ran into this with names.. expanding names past 4 charaters IS possible through pointer hacks, but the fact that most menu's only like 4, prevents us from doing this. We went ahead and did pointer hacks and expanded Class names, so some lines may black out in non battle status screens, but in all battles and dialouge, they show up fine. --------------------------------- 6. Running This Game *IMPORTANT* The only emulator that we reccomend to run this game with is BioNES. FWNES will run the game fine, but it lacks an auto frame thingy (i think.. hehe) and the game is buggy when using the instant save and load feature. BioNES isn't the friendliest thing to work with though, so here is how to get your game to run at the correct speed. 1. Set your resolution to 640 * 480, click apply. 2. Change your refresh rate! Click on the advanced settings of the "Settings" tab in the display properties (in the control panels or right click on the desktop), then click on the Adapter tab (may be different for your video card), and set the refresh rate to 60Hz. Make sure your monitor can handle it, i don't know much about monitors, so that may sound stupid, but I'm just being safe. 3. Click apply, and then go back to the normal resolution you normally use, Windows should save the settings for the pevious resolution. 4. Load up BioNES and it should run at 60fps now, isn't that spiff? We highy reccommend you read the BioNES readme to use all it's features, and we also highly recommend you run the game twice the speed it normally runs at (press F3 to increase the framerate), NES games were soooo slow... We also recommend that you put a shortcut to the folder in which you put your NES roms in the My Documents folder, since that's the default folder BioNES runs from. That way, you only have to double click on the shortcut instead of navigating through your computer everytime you run the game. --------------------------------- 7.
